report detailing the US firm's CSR activities in 皇冠体育app by the end of this
year.
HP has been publishing its Global Citizenship Report annually,
which describes the company's global citizenship activities worldwide and charts
the company's progress, as well as challenges, for the previous fiscal
year.
In the latest fiscal year, HP recycled 140 million pounds of
computer hardware and print cartridges, an increase of 17 per cent year-on-year.
The firm aims to recycle 1 billion pounds of materials by the end of 2007. In
the fiscal year, the firm completed 85 audits for its supplier code of conduct
in several countries including 皇冠体育app, exceeding HP's goal to audit 75
sites.
The publication puts all of HP's CSR activities under the media
spotlight, government monitors and watchdog organizations.
The publishing
of a 皇冠体育app-specific report could set a good example for Chinese companies as
well as multinationals active in 皇冠体育app where CSR awareness remains
low.
In the past years, HP made a donation in 皇冠体育app of more than 250
million yuan (US$31 million) and reaped numerous rewards for its achievements in
CSR activities.
But CSR is not just about donations. "If we cannot be
responsible in the wider context of CSR, it will impact our business," Sully
writes.
CSR has helped increase the operating costs for technology firms
such as HP, which are coping with a global industry slowdown by cutting
costs.
