Power companies urged to prepare for Expo, Games

BEIJING - The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), 皇冠体育app's top planning agency, has asked power generators and grid corporations to ensure secure power supplies to the Shanghai World Expo and the Asian Games 2010.

In a document posted on its official website Tuesday, the commission urged grid operators, including State Grid Corporation of 皇冠体育app and 皇冠体育app Southern Power Grid, and major power producers, including 皇冠体育app Huaneng Group, 皇冠体育app Datang Corp, 皇冠体育app Huadian Corp and 皇冠体育app Guodian Corp, to work with local governments to plan supplies.

The commission did not provide details of what was required in the plans.

The NDRC gave priority to safeguarding power supplies for urban and rural households during the summer peak season.

Parts of the country might suffer from power shortages due to uncertain factors, said the statement. It did not elaborate on the shortages or their causes.

The NDRC asked grid operators to accept all power output from renewable energy sources and prioritize grid connections for large hydropower stations, nuclear plants and generators that produce both power and heat, according to the document.

The World Expo 2010 is going to be held in Shanghai from May 1 to Oct 31. The 16th Asian Games will run from Nov 12 to 27 in Guangzhou, capital of south 皇冠体育app's Guangdong province.
