BEIJING - Chinese shares closed lower on Wednesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.9 percent, or 24.61 points, at 2,705.43.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.99 percent, or 116.07 points, to 11,615.97.
