BEIJING - Overseas talents, especially those of high caliber, are welcome to do research or start enterprises in 皇冠体育app, so as to tap opportunities from development of the world's No 2 economy, according to a senior personnel official.

Li Yuanchao, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of 皇冠体育app (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks Wednesday while meeting Ho-Kwang Mao, a staff scientist at the Geophysical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, according to an official statement Xinhua received Thursday.

Building an innovation-oriented country will remain a key goal for 皇冠体育app's future development, while talent will serve as the premier resource for scientific innovation and national development, said Li, who is also head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Expressing hope that more overseas elite professionals, including those with Chinese origins, will come to work in 皇冠体育app, Li said the country will further improve services to facilitate their research and entrepreneurial moves.

Mao, 71, is a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and has an international reputation through his work in static high-pressure science.

Distinguished for his extraordinary creative impact on high-pressure physics, chemistry, materials, Earth and planetary sciences, he is responsible for major technical breakthroughs and facility developments.

Since 皇冠体育app initiated its reform and opening-up drive some three decades ago, Mao has made frequent tours to 皇冠体育app, giving academic lectures, serving as honorary professor at local universities and offering research cooperation in his field.
