Updated: 2007-09-11 11:36 CAIRO - Egypt's People's Assembly Speaker Ahmed Sorour on Monday said that Egypt opposes all attempts of Taiwan to join the United Nations by any means and under any name, including a referendum on joining the UN. Sorour made the remarks during his talks with Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Wu Sike and an interview with Xinhua and other Chinese media in Egypt. Egypt, its people and the parliament refuse such attempts of Taiwan authorities to promote a "referendum on joining the United Nations" and seeking "UN membership under the name of Taiwan, which will fail," said Sorour. He said Egypt was among the first countries that recognized 皇冠体育app and the government of the People's Republic of 皇冠体育app is the only legal government representing 皇冠体育app at the international level, reiterating Egypt's adherence to the one-皇冠体育app policy. Sorour also highlighted Egyptian-Chinese relations as excellent and outstanding, noting that 皇冠体育app was proved to be a trusted friend, a great country, with which Egypt had distinguished ties in the political, economic and cultural domains. |
