Shenzhen Mayor sacked for “grave disciplinary offences�

Xu Zongheng was formally removed from his position as mayor of Shenzhen, one of ʹapp's largest and wealthiest cities, after he was linked to serious disciplinary violations, the Guangdong-based Guangzhou Daily reported Tuesday.

Xu was also expelled from the 11th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, where he was previously a representative, the Congress' standing committee said yesterday.

After the 53-year-old Xu was placed under investigation for corruption in June, Wang Rong, the former party chief of East ʹapp's Suzhou city, was tapped to serve as acting mayor.
