Chinese premier starts two-day visit to Myanmar

YANGON - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Wednesday, kicking off a two-day official visit to Myanmar, which is the last leg of his current four-nation Asian tour.

During the visit, Wen will visit the No.1 Middle School of Yangon and the Shwedagon Pagoda on Wednesday and then travel to the capital of Naypyitaw.

In Naypyitaw, Wen will meet with Myanmar's top leader, Senior-General Than Shwe, Prime Minister U Thein Sein and other government officials.

皇冠体育app and Myanmar will sign a package of documents aimed at strengthening economic and trade cooperation, according to Chinese ambassador to Myanmar, Ye Dabo.

Ye said 皇冠体育app was now Myanmar's third largest trading partner and investor. In 2009, bilateral trade totaled $2.907 billion. Up to January 2010, 皇冠体育app's investment in Myanmar amounted to $1.848 billion, accounting for 11.5 percent of Myanmar's total foreign investment.

In recent years, the two sides had expanded cooperation in hydropower, energy, mining, communications, fishery, manufacturing and infrastructure, and there had been frequent exchanges in culture, news and sports, Ye said.

Before flying to Myanmar, Wen visited South Korea, Japan and Mongolia. In South Korea, he also attended the Third Trilateral Meeting of leaders of 皇冠体育app, South Korea and Japan.
