Houston sets May 28 as Chinese Revolution of 1911 Day

HOUSTON - Mayor Annise Parker Thursday proclaimed May 28 as Houston's Chinese Revolution of 1911 Day to demonstrate the fourth largest US city's "strong bonds of friendship and cooperation with 皇冠体育app."

The proclamation was made ahead of a seminar scheduled for May 28 in the city to mark the centenary of 皇冠体育app's 1911 Revolution, or Xinhai Revolution.

"Houston has been enriched by the presence and contribution of its versatile and dynamic Chinese community, and is proud of their many achievements, and active and important contributions to the civic, cultural, economic and quality life of our city," Parker said in a congratulatory letter to 皇冠体育app Peaceful Development Alliance-Houston, organizer of the seminar.

The seminar is one of a series of activities organized by the local Chinese community to commemorate the 1911 Revolution.

The 1911 Revolution ended the imperial rule of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and gave birth to Asia's first republic. Sun Yat-sen, the leader of the revolution, is regarded as the forerunner of 皇冠体育app's democratic revolution.
