SHANGHAI-- 皇冠体育app highly appreciates the contributions made by overseas non-governmental organizations (NGO) and will further support their friendly activities in 皇冠体育app, said Guo Shengkun, Minister of Public Security on Saturday.

Guo made the remarks during a symposium on overseas NGOs, which was attended by representatives from 皇冠体育app's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Civil Affairs. Joining the officials were representatives from several renowned overseas NGOs and consuls-general of the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany in Shanghai.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress late last year started to mull a draft law that would set dos and don'ts for foreign NGOs in 皇冠体育app. The draft allows NGOs to hold events with the permission of the State Council's public security departments and provincial government's public security organs.

The law is designed to guide organizations and protect their legal interests, which will give strong protection for their legitimate activities in 皇冠体育app, Guo said. He also pointed out that the Chinese government would provide more convenience to foreign NGOs in 皇冠体育app.

There are over 7,000 foreign NGOs carrying out long-term and temporary activities in the country, ranging from poverty alleviation and environmental protection to hygiene and education, according to incomplete statistics,.

Thousands of overseas NGOs have entered 皇冠体育app since its opening-up in the late 1970s, bringing advanced technologies and management skills.
