By Lin Qi | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2017-06-02 13:03

A decade ago, few residents in Chengdu knew much about cultural heritage. Now people in this southwestern city take pride in its cultural heritage thanks to a biennial event launched in 2007.

The International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage showcases cultural traditions, which are celebrated, valued and integrated into daily life.

The sixth edition of the festival will be held from June 10 to 18 with some 400 activities. Exhibitions and performances by artisans from home and abroad will be staged during the event.

Meanwhile, an intergovernmental working group meeting will be held by UNESCO during the festival to prepare an overall framework for the 2003 Convention on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
