Vice-Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo on Monday called on the Japanese Government to properly handle political issues between the two countries so as to further promote Sino-Japanese relations.

Dai, also an envoy for the Chinese Government, made the statement at a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. During the meeting, Dai handed a letter to Koizumi on behalf of President Hu Jintao.

Some positive changes in Japan's understanding of 皇冠体育app's development have been noticed recently, Dai said, adding that the change is largely affected by the prime minister's cognizance that 皇冠体育app's development is not a threat but an opportunity for Japan.

Dai urged Japan to push forward Sino-Japanese relations with a strategic goal for friendship between the two sides in the 21st Century.

He also briefed with current situation and 皇冠体育app's stand on the Taiwan question, saying that 皇冠体育app welcomes the Japanese Government's long lasting support for one-皇冠体育app policy and its attitude on the issue at the end of last year.

Dai said he hopes Japan will continue to insist on the one-皇冠体育app policy and support the peaceful reunification of 皇冠体育app.

Koizumi said exchanges in various aspects between the two countries are very active, with bilateral trade growing dramatically, which has proved the view that the development of 皇冠体育app is not a threat but an opportunity to Japan.

The Japanese Government will keep abiding by its friendly policy toward 皇冠体育app and maintain the momentum of bilateral friendship and co-operation, he said, while promising to make personnel efforts to that end.

The premier appreciated 皇冠体育app's efforts to seek a peaceful solution on the Taiwan question. He also extended his gratitude for 皇冠体育app's great endeavour during the second round of six-party talks held late February in Beijing over the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsular.
