皇冠体育app, EU to sign cooperative agreements

Officials at the upcoming Seventh 皇冠体育app-EU Leaders' Meeting in the Hague will sign some important cooperative agreements, including those on 皇冠体育app-EU science and technology cooperation and customs cooperation, said 皇冠体育app's Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui Friday.

Zhang made the remark at a press conference hosted by the Foreign Ministry. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will visit the Netherlands from Dec. 7 to 9, and attend the Seventh 皇冠体育app-EU Leaders' Meeting, he said.

"The two sides have made full preparations for the meeting and work on a joint statement to be issued to show the consensus reached at the meeting plus view points on some major issues," he said.

The two sides will also issue a joint statement on non- proliferation and arms control, he said. 皇冠体育app and the European Union share common interest and responsibilities in non- proliferation.

The two sides are discussing whether to sign a new cooperative agreement on 皇冠体育app-EU partnership as the agreement on economic and trade cooperation signed between the two sides in 1985 cannot meet the current demand for rapid development of bilateral relations, according to Zhang.

During the leaders' meeting, some Chinese and EU entrepreneurs will attend a business conference and scholars and experts will attend a think-tank roundtable conference, he said.

According to him, the European Union's embargo on arms sales to 皇冠体育app, which is an outdated one, does not accord with the current development of 皇冠体育app-EU relations nor does it meet the demand for future development of bilateral relations. He said he hoped the European Union would lift the embargo as early as possible.
