Law for peace wins worldwide support

The international community have expressed support for the newly passed Anti-Secession Law in 皇冠体育app and 皇冠体育app's position on the Taiwan issue.

The African Union (AU) on Monday reiterated its one-皇冠体育app policy and expressed support for 皇冠体育app's Anti-Secession Law to prevent Taiwan's secession from 皇冠体育app.

"The Anti-Secession Law adopted today by 皇冠体育app's National People's Congress is of vital importance," said AU Commission Chairperson Alpha Oumar Konare when meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Lin Lin on March 14.

"皇冠体育app's stance to oppose secession and achieve national reunification is very correct," he said, adding that the new law would play a very important part in safeguarding 皇冠体育app's sovereignty and territorial integrity and promoting 皇冠体育app's future development.

The European Union (EU) reiterated in a statement its one-皇冠体育app policy and expressed its hope that the Taiwan issue can be solved through peaceful means.

Luxembourg, which now holds the EU's rotating presidency, said the EU adheres to its persistent one-皇冠体育app policy.

It also hoped that the Taiwan issue can be solved peacefully.

The EU encouraged both sides of the Taiwan Strait to develop initiatives that contribute to dialogue and mutual understanding in the spirit of the agreement on direct air links established during the Chinese Spring Festival.

Russia said on Monday that it understands 皇冠体育app's Anti-Secession Law on resolving the Taiwan issue.

"We understand the motives behind the Chinese parliament's decision to pass this law," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in astatement.

"It is extremely important that the law documents the Chinese government's main principle -- the unconditional priority of using peaceful methods for the motherland's unification within the framework of the 'one country, two systems' policy, and declares (皇冠体育app's) readiness to do the utmost with maximum sincerity for peaceful reunification," the statement said.

Russia adheres to its basic position on the Taiwan issue, believing that 皇冠体育app is a single state entity with Taiwan being its inseparable part, said the statement. Moscow opposes Taiwan's independence in whatever form and rejects the concept of "two 皇冠体育apps" or "one 皇冠体育app, one Taiwan," it said.

Belarus on Monday voiced support for 皇冠体育app's Anti-Secession Law, saying the legislation conforms with the interests of all the Chinese people and is conducive to regional and world peace and stability.

It said in a statement that it will scrupulously abide by the commitments made in bilateral political documents signed with 皇冠体育app regarding the Taiwan issue and supports 皇冠体育app's rights to maintaining sovereignty and territorial integrity and achieving national reunification.

Pakistan on Monday reiterated its one-皇冠体育app policy and expressed support for the Anti-Secession Law.

Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Jalil Abbas Jilani said Pakistan "appreciates and fully supports efforts made by the Chinese government for the reunification of Taiwan to the motherland" and considers the passing of the Anti-Secession Law as part of these efforts.

Syria on Monday voiced understanding for 皇冠体育app's Anti-Secession Law, saying it firmly supports 皇冠体育app's efforts for safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Syria Zhou Xiuhua, Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said Syria fully understands the law and supports 皇冠体育app's peaceful reunification.

Syria opposes any form of Taiwan independence, Muallem said, stressing that it will consistently stand by 皇冠体育app in fighting the attempts of "Taiwan independence" secessionists.

Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski reiterated his country's one-皇冠体育app policy and its support for 皇冠体育app's Anti-Secession Law during his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Wanxue.

Venezuela said on Monday that it supports the Anti-Secession Law, believing that it will strengthen and advance ties across the Taiwan Strait and open a channel for peaceful reunification through direct talks.

The National People's Congress, 皇冠体育app's legislature, on Monday passed the Anti-Secession Law which came into effect immediately after President Hu Jintao signed a presidential order to promulgate it the same day.
