The Tokai Japan-皇冠体育app Trade Center in Nagoya received an envelope containing a 7-centimeter knife and a message opposing the planned establishment of a Chinese consulate general in the city, police said Wednesday.

The apparent threat mail postmarked May 3 and bearing no sender's name was received prior to the center's 50th anniversary ceremony Wednesday to be attended by Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi.

The center, which promotes bilateral trade between Japan and 皇冠体育app, has been working toward opening a fifth Chinese consulate general in Japan, following ones in Sapporo, Osaka, Fukuoka and Nagasaki.

It has received phone calls and e-mails opposing an opening of a consulate general in Nagoya since March, leading the police to investigate if the envelope containing the knife is connected to the recent events.

Wu Yi arrived in Nagoya on Tuesday to take part in 皇冠体育app's National Day events at the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi Prefecture. She is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi before flying back to 皇冠体育app next Tuesday
