Twenty miners have been confirmed killed in a coal mine accident in north 皇冠体育app, including 14 who were trapped in a coal shaft after an explosion and six others in a neighbouring mine, reports said.

The accident was caused by a gas explosion on Friday at the Hougou Colliery, a government-owned company located in Linfen city, Shanxi province, the Beijing News said.

Fourteen of the miners in the Hougou shaft died.

The blast also damaged the neighbouring Shapingzi coal mine, killing six miners there.

The accident came as at least 40 miners died and 10 are still missing after a gas blast at a mine in north 皇冠体育app's Chengde city, Hebei Province on Thursday.

皇冠体育app's mines claimed the lives of about 6000 people last year, according to official statistics.
