US report on 皇冠体育app's military rejected

皇冠体育app yesterday expressed "strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition" to a
Pentagon report on its military power, describing the dossier as an attempt to
spread "the 皇冠体育app threat" theory.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Yang expressed 皇冠体育app's strong displeasure
and firm opposition to a Pentagon report asserting 皇冠体育app's
fast-modernizing military could pose a threat to the region, saying "The
report groundlessly attacks 皇冠体育app's military modernization and makes
unwarranted charges about 皇冠体育app's normal national defense building and
military deployments," in a statement.

summoned David S. Sedney, charge d'affaires of the US Embassy in 皇冠体育app, to make
clear the country's dissatisfaction with the report.
The Pentagon submitted the annual report to congress on Tuesday, warning that
皇冠体育app's modernizing military could threaten US and other armed forces in the
Asia-Pacific region.
"The report groundlessly attacked 皇冠体育app's modernization of national defence
and made unwarranted charges against 皇冠体育app's normal national defence
construction and military deployment," Yang was quoted as saying in a Foreign
Ministry press release.
The US report said 皇冠体育app was "the third largest defence spender in the world
after the US and Russia" and its military modernization "has increased the need
for countermeasures that would enable Taiwan to avoid being quickly
overwhelmed."
Yang, former Chinese ambassador to the US, accused the Americans of using
this as a pretext for selling advanced weapons to Taiwan.
