The eyes have it

Eyes are the windows to the soul. Some people have big eyes, some have small eyes, but when da yanr deng xiao yanr (, literal translation: big eyes stare at small eyes), it means two people gaze at each other in bewilderment, especially after a miscalculated move. When someone zheng yi zhi yan bi yi zhi yan (, literal translation: opens one eye and closes the other), it means they have turned a blind eye to something.

If a rumour is portrayed vividly with every detail sounding real, it is you bizi you yanr (, literal translation: have nose and eyes); but if you were yelled at mei zhang yanjing a (?, literal translation: didn't you grow eyes), it means you have acted recklessly, especially whilst driving. And, never, never become anybody's yan zhong ding (, literal translation: nail in the eye), it means your actions hurt people and you are hated.
