Some 20,000 people were made homeless when an earthquake shook a remote mountainous region in southwest 皇冠体育app, state media said Friday. One person was reported injured.

The magnitude-5.0 quake struck at 9:05 a.m. (0105 GMT) on Thursday in Mojiang, a county in southwest Yunnan province, the seismological bureau said.

Buildings and homes in at least nine villages collapsed or were damaged by the quake, the Xinhua News Agency said. About 100,000 people were affected and 20,000 made homeless.

One person was injured, Xinhua said, citing the local government. No details about the injured person were given.

By Friday, the local government had sent 600 tents, 1,500 quilts and 31 tons of food to the stricken area, it said.

Eight mild aftershocks have been recorded since the quake, and the seismological bureau predicted more tremors in the coming days, Xinhua said.
