Malaysian chef Alan Wong at the Beijing's Kerry Hotel believes that some of the finest dining a country has to offer is the local street fare that every day people eat at. Hawker food stalls offer all kinds of tasty flavors influenced by local culture, and through Sept 11 he's featuring more than 40 authentic Southeast Asian delights from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
The buffet features an extensive spread that includes lor mee (braised yellow noodles with egg gravy), satay (grilled mixed meat in skewers with peanut sauce), lok lok (assorted skewered items dipped in hot pot), orh chien (oyster omelet), fried carrot cake, pad Thai (Thai-style fried noodles), som tam (green papaya salad), ayam penyet (roasted chicken Indonesia-style), Vietnamese spring rolls, Sinigang (Filipino savory soup), pancit Canton (tossed fried egg noodles) and halo-halo (shaved ice with evaporated milk and syrup).
Weekday buffet lunch from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm is 318 yuan ($47) per person plus service charge and VAT; buffet dinner from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm and Sunday brunch buffet from noon to 3:30 pm are 388 yuan at Kerry's Kitchen, 1 Guanghua Road, Chaoyang district; 010-8565-2088.
