Lisu New Year (Kuo Shi) of Nujiang

Date: December 20, 2009 (5^th of the eleventh month by lunar calendar)

Venue: Liuku Town, Lushui County and Shangpa Town, Fugong County, Nujiang Prefecture, etc.

The Lisus鈥� New Year, 鈥淜uo Shi鈥� in the Lisu ethnic language, is the traditional festival of Lisus in Nujiang known as 鈥渢he Ethnic Minority in Ggorge鈥� and 鈥渢he Ethnic Minority on Mountain鈥�. During the festival at Liuku, capital of Nujiang prefecture, grand performance themed on 鈥淐limbing Swords and Stepping on a Sea of Flames鈥� and 鈥淪pring Bathing in the Open Air鈥� will be held every year. The Lisu inhabitation area in each county will hold festival pray activities for blessings such as Guoliu, crossbow shooting and drinking song singing. The 鈥渇our-voice鈥� singing by tens thousand of people known as the 鈥渓iving fossil for intermingling of Chinese and western culture鈥� is the greatest highlight on the festival.
