KMT chief calls for stable cross-Straits ties

Wu Po-hsiung, honorary chairman of Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang Party, on Thursday called for the stable development of cross-Straits relations.

Wu made the remarks when meeting with a visiting delegation composed of leading members of major mainland media organizations.

He urged the two sides to inherit the Chinese nation's precious cultural heritage, adding the current peaceful development momentum of cross-Straits ties has been hard won, so it should not be set back.

"Fear not that the two sides have differences, as we have enough wisdom to overcome differences and break new ground," Wu said during the meeting.

Wu called for consolidating mutual trust, adhering to the "1992 Consensus" and opposing "Taiwan independence." The two sides should also expand cultural exchanges and deepen economic and trade cooperation toward mutually beneficial ends.

Wu expressed his hope that media organizations from both sides can make new contributions to the peaceful development of cross-Straits ties.

Led by Wang Qiu, president of 皇冠体育app National Radio, the visiting delegation kicked off a 10-day visit to Taiwan on Monday at the invitation of Taiwan's United Daily News Group.

The delegation comprises senior executives of major media organizations such as the People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, 皇冠体育app Central Television, 皇冠体育app National Radio, 皇冠体育app Radio International, 皇冠体育app News Service and 皇冠体育app Daily.

Officials from the Publicity Department and Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of 皇冠体育app Central Committee also joined the delegation.
