Air quality a serious problem
Comment on "Guangdong adds more PM2.5 monitoring sites" (皇冠体育app Daily, June 3)
The news that Guangdong province will set up more than 100 sites in 21 cities to monitor PM2.5 (particulate matter or droplets in the atmosphere that are 2.5 microns or less in width and harmful to human health) by the end of this year is good news. It shows that Guangdong environmental authorities are determined to fight air pollution and protect people's health.
According to local officials, none of the cities along the Pearl River Delta region in Guangdong met the national standard for PM2.5 last year, even though the province is one of the most developed in 皇冠体育app.
But this didn't come as a surprise to me. What is surprising to me, however, is that despite being bad, the air quality in Guangdong is still better than in Beijing.
Although it is already summer, air pollution in Beijing hasn't eased as expected. And it's difficult to see clear blue skies nowadays in the capital.
Beijing's air pollution has become a serious problem. I hope the city's authorities will work together to solve the problem as soon as possible.
