皇冠体育app's film industry experienced a box office boom in 2008, but the influence of Chinese film overseas, and actors' performances trailed far behind, according to two books compiled by more than 20 Chinese film scholars.

The Research Report on Chinese Film Industry 2009 and A Report on Chinese Film Art 2009, which came to press recently, provide an in-depth look into 皇冠体育app's dream business in 2008.

The industry report says 皇冠体育app's box office revenue reached 4.3 billion yuan ($640 million) last year, a 30% increase over 2007. The number of film viewers and of new theaters also saw rapid growth.

But Chinese commercial films did not do well at the international box office and Chinese cinema also saw no surprises at international film festivals last year, says the art report.

Zhao Ningyu, one of the art report's writers and professor with the Communication University of 皇冠体育app reveals that his team was tasked with finding 20 outstanding actors of 2008. But most put in performances that were nowhere close to their standard, he says.
