CRIENGLISH.com | Updated: 2011-07-12 16:53

As incomes rise and more Chinese tourists jet off overseas, hotel brands are keen to get in on the action and generate sales from the rapidly growing Chinese tourist market.

A report in the Wall Street Journal has detailed some of the most significant steps taken to secure a slice of this market by an international hotel chain thus far.

According to the report, the Hilton Hotel group announced on Monday that they will launch a new program called 'Hilton Huanying.' In Mandarin, 'Huanying' means 'welcome'.

As a part of the new program, tourists will be welcomed by Chinese-speaking staff and shown their room, which will have Chinese tea, kettles, slippers and Chinese programming on the television. There will also be an array of Chinese food on offer for breakfast, including congee, fried noodles and soy milk.

Hotel chains are locked in a fierce battle for business from Chinese tourists. According to the report, the Paris and Shangri-La hotel Chains are thus far, the preferred hotels for Chinese tourists staying overseas.
