Two controversial ancient Chinese relics have been auctioned off for 14 million Euros each by anonymous telephone bidders at Christie's.

Before the sale Wednesday night, Chinese students arrived at the Grand Palace in Paris. They distributed sheets explaining how the relics were looted during the Second Opium War.

The Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris had ruled against stopping the sale of the two bronzes on Monday. On Tuesday, the Chinese government formally called for the cancellation of the auction of the two pieces.
