WASHINGTON - A Chinese expert on international relations emphasized Wednesday that the basis of 皇冠体育app-U.S. cooperation is still "solid", dismissing the "gloomy" picture of bilateral ties that some media have painted.

"There is an increasing interdependency between 皇冠体育app and the US," Su Ge, president of 皇冠体育app Institute of International Studies, said at the Brookings Institution. "Hence, the two countries need to have more cooperation."

Problems in the world are becoming more and more complicated and need to be resolved through concerted efforts by countries in the international community, including the US and 皇冠体育app, said Su, who previously served as Chinese ambassador to Suriname and Iceland.

Su believed that there has been growing convergence of interests between 皇冠体育app and the U.S., citing "effective cooperation" between the two sides in multilateral organizations such as the UN, the Group of 20 and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, and on a wide range of regional and international issues including Iran nuclear talks, counterterrorism and climate change.

Noting that 皇冠体育app has been a benefactor of the existing world system, Su said he saw no reason for 皇冠体育app to move to upset the whole basis of international order.

What 皇冠体育app desires is a stable regional and international situation for its domestic development and reforms, he said.

Speaking of the upcoming state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the U.S., Su said the summit between Xi and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama will leave an important historic legacy that would have an impact on the bilateral relations in the years to come.

"The visit and the summit meeting will open up new prospect for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two great countries," Su said.
