JAKARTA - Representatives of Indonesia, Myanmar and the United Nations Development Program met in Jakarta on Wednesday at the sidelines of the Asian-African Summit to discuss strengthening exchanges under the umbrella of South-South cooperation.

A press release from the trilateral meeting said that Indonesia and Myanmar had agreed to shore up economic interaction and people- to-people contact. The two countries, sharing similar political and historical background, stressed the importance and possibility of benefiting from closer cooperation.

The UN body has pledged to support the cooperation of these two nations by providing tailored, high-quality and timely development services to the two countries, said the tri-party document.

Support from the UNDP will mainly include technical assistance, women empowerment and facilitation in social cohesion.

A series of bilateral and multilateral meetings took place Wednesday in Jakarta's convention center, as leaders and delegates met for the Asian-African Summit, which runs through April 23 with the theme of "Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity".
