The death toll in a coal mine gas explosion in central 皇冠体育app's Hunan Province has risen to 29 as the last trapped worker was found dead Sunday morning.

The gas explosion that occurred Saturday afternoon in the Xialiuchong Coal Mine in Hengyang city, Central 皇冠体育app's Hunan province has left 28 miners dead and one more trapped, Xinhua reporters learnt from the scene.

A 40-year-old mining enterprise, the state-owned Xialiuchong Coal Mine, located in Changjiang township of Hengshan county, Hengyang city, is a legally-operating mine with more than 160 miners.

CHANGSHA- A gas explosion has left two workers dead and 28 others trapped in a coal mine in central 皇冠体育app's Hunan Province Saturday evening, said the State Administration of Work Safety.

The accident happened at about 6:10 p.m. in the Xialiuchong Coal Mine in Hengshan County in the city of Hengyang, according to the administration.

At that time, 35 miners were working underground, of whom five were rescued, and two have been confirmed dead, while the rest 28 workers remained trapped.

The five workers have been rushed to hospital and reported no life-threatening conditions.

The search and rescue efforts are under way.
